Real Experiences
I am not a dancer. Actually I really can only ever remember dancing when I was several drinks deep, inhibitions to the wind at Rick’s way past a time anything good would come of it. When I quit drinking one of my goals was to be able to dance sober someday - an accomplishment that would mean I was comfortable in my skin and my head just as I am, and able to do something that means I am happy and free. I finally hit that milestone when I got the courage to attend Candice’s Hip Hop dance class, a step out of my comfort zone that took me months and lots of encouragement from friends to take. As soon as I took my first class I knew this would be a place I found a part of myself that had been locked away long ago. Candice’s energy is infectious and helped me feel comfortable, even as I stumbled over my steps the first class. The moves turned out to be fairly simple and broken down in a way even I could follow. The room is full of regular women who just want to be free and have some fun for an hour. There is no judgement, a positive attitude toward error (even Candice forgets the moves!) and lots of laughing, clapping, sweating, cheering, and some serious fitness that seems to happen almost accidentally as part of the class. It is now my one hour a week I make sure I make happen, no matter the childcare or personal arrangements I have to coordinate. It is my favorite hour spent with myself each week pouring into my body and my soul in a way I haven’t found anywhere else.

Candice’s classes are just what my workout routine needed! Her knowledge of exercises goes above and beyond of what I look for in a workout class. Low impact, high reward workouts. Transformed my body completely, all while having fun in an upbeat, positive, and inclusive environment.
